West Coast Run with John Fullbright

Hey,

So we were offered an offer that we couldn't refuse. No organized crime was involved (so far as we are aware), but we will be opening for our good friend John Fullbright on the West coast (and a little bit of the inland portion) of the states.

The downside is that we will miss a few things around here (including Norman Music Fest, Brickfest and the Deli for a few weeks) but we're sure you'll understand.

Check the calendar for the dates and places, tell your friends in those places to come see us on those dates (also if your friends have couches that we could sleep on, let us know and we'll make good use of those couches).

THIS JUST IN: Our good friend Samantha Crain will be covering our dates at the Deli. The dates are 4/23, 4/30, and 5/7. Go see her. You won't regret it.

ALSO: I will be playing with Critter Fuqua and Ketch Secor (of Old Crow Medicine Show) as well as Shawn Camp at the Station Inn in Nashville on 4/3. Tell your Nashville friends.

OK ONE LAST THING:

Thanks dad for getting us a wonderful front license plate.

xoxo,

Parker

WE HAD FUN

Howdy,

Guess what? We had a good time at SXSW and went to Willie Nelson's Ranch, then we came home to Norman and had a blast at the Midway Deli and I lost my sunglasses but then I found them and then we went up to Bartlesville and pet Walter the dog and then we came home and now I have an ear infection.

But hey don't worry about it baby I've got antibiotics and nose spray.

Stay tuned for new news and dates. Also for proof that we went to Willie Nelson's Ranch follow us on instagram.

xoxo,

Parker

PS BIG THANKS TO THESE FOLKS:

STEPHEN BOHN AND JAMES PLUS THEIR DOGS AND COUCHES

NEWS/SXSW

Hey good-lookin',

We are playing at the Open Door Coffeehouse in Arlington tomorrow night. If you're within a few hundred miles, come see us.

After Arlington we're gonna truck down to Houston to play the KPFT benefit at the Mucky Duck under the big tent. 1:30 pm on that one.

Next week we've got three SXSW shows on Wednesday and Thursday, playing the Midway Deli in Norman on Friday and Frank and Lola's in Bartlesville on Saturday.

Busy week and I couldn't be more grateful.

Here's the SXSW Schedule:

I Made It Back

Hey there,

I went to Canada for Folk Alliance. Toronto is a neat town (who am I kidding, it's definitely a city). Exciting things on the horizon. I hope you all are fine and well and warm and snuggled up with your pups.

Deli tomorrow, weather permitting.

xo from ok,

Parker

This Weekend + Folk Alliance

Howdy,

We've got a busy week/weekend coming up.

Tomorrow 10 pm at the Wormy Dog in OKC.

Friday at Fassler Hall with Samantha Crain and Skating Polly

Saturday at the Blue Door with Samantha Crain.

The shows with Samantha are album release shows for her new record, KID FACE. Rumors are that it's incredible and that you're going to want a copy of it, so be sure and catch those.

Then on Tuesday, I head to Toronto for the big Folk Alliance. I realize most of you reading this aren't going to Canada with me, but for those of you who are reading this who WILL be there, here's my schedule for the week:

Thanks y'all.

Parker

We're Back

Hey folks,

I'm back. We made a record. Yet to be mixed and mastered, but by golly we recorded it. We're back at the Deli tomorrow. 7-9. Like always. Free. Like always.

Love,

Parker

Upcoming

Hey folks,

Last night was our last Tuesday at the Deli for a few weeks. Big thanks to everyone who attended. You all are fantastic. Jessey Thompson and Dylan Stewart will be covering for us the next two weeks (respectively). Go check 'em out.

We will keep you updated as the album is recorded over the next two weeks. Most likely it will be mostly through pictures.

Playing at the Deli tomorrow night and at the Colony on Saturday night.

Come see us.

xoxo,

Parker

Thank You and Please

Howdy everyone,

I would like to first of all thank all of you who came out to our shows over the weekend. The Mercury Lounge and Blue Note crowds were very kind to us. Thanks for letting us into your ears.

Here's a picture from Nathan Poppe taken during the Blue Note show:

Now, I would like to let you all know that we will be going into the studio a week from today to record a new album. We aren't doing a Kickstarter for this project, but if you would like to make a contribution to the recording of our record, you may do so by using the donation widget on the right hand side of your screen or you can follow this link to our donation page:

We're looking forward to offering you all some new music and I hope we see ya real soon.

Big Day

Howdy,

I had a big day.

First of all, my band mates and I were featured in the Oklahoma Gazette, and they even put a goofy picture of me on the cover. Big thanks to Joshua Boydston and the folks at the Gazette for the recognition and the kind words. If you'd like to read the story, click on this picture of me shredding on a little one-stringed gourd instrument:

In other news, we are going to be opening for Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights at Cain's Ballroom on February 9th. Back in high school, Michael and I used to say to each other, "Man, one of these days we're gonna go all the way to Tulsa and play at Cain's, yeah, cool…" and then we'd blast through a blistering 20-minute version of "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" and high five each other. So, while we won't be playing any Hendrix (maybe) we will be bringing one of our childhood dreams to fruition. Yeehaw.

Love,

Parker

January 11 & 12

Hey there,

We have two big shows coming up this weekend. Here are the posters, in chronological order:

Gazette Top Ten

Hey Folks,

In case you haven't heard, Michael and I received a great placement in the Oklahoma Gazette's "Top Ten Albums of the Year". Big thanks to all of you for lending us your ears and your time.

Click this picture to read the full list of Top Ten Albums from the Gazette:

Auld Lang Syne

Hey folks,

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas or Festivus or whatever it is that you celebrate. I had a great one and we even got a little winter precipitation. Gonna play a show on New Year's Eve at the Bluebonnet. Kierston White made this wonderful poster. Come listen.

Songwriters at the Dance Club

Howdy Folks,

We have a few gigs this week that I thought I would let you know about.

On Tuesday, as usual, we will be at the Deli from 7-9 for free yeehaw!

On Thursday we will be playing at Club One15 in the city. Now, I know you're thinking, "isn't that a dance club...what are you doing playing there!?" and I thought the same thing but I'll try anything once (not really), and they're trying to create a new space for live original music in OKC. So, come listen to some songs. 9 pm. No cover.

Then on Saturday we are playing at Whiskey Chicks. After this week, we won't be back in the city for a while, so come lend us your ears for a while.

Thanks,

Parker

UPDATE

Howdy folks,

First off I would like to congratulate my good friends, John Fullbright and Wes Sharon for their Grammy nomination in the category of "Best Americana Album". I put quotations on that for grammatical reasons, not sarcastic ones. Hooray for Okies doing it right.

Next, I would like to inform you that we added some new dates so look at the calendar and come see us.

Yeehaw!

Here are some pictures from New Mexico and from the Blue Door Woody Guthrie Tribute:

Taos Run and Christmas Song

Hey guys,

Michael and I are going on a little run this weekend/week-beginning. Frank and Lola's with Dr. John Fullbright tonight. Singer's in Hays, KS tomorrow night. The Adobe Bar at the Taos Inn (in Taos) Tuesday night. This means we will not be at the Deli this Tuesday, but our good buddy Kyle Reid will be so go listen to him and buy his wonderful new CD it's great.

In the meantime, go listen to/download (for free!) our version of "Go Tell it on the Mountain" RIGHT HERE. Big thanks to Jonathan Fowler and Blackwatch Studio for having us on this fine compilation.

See you around,

Parker

11/13-11/17

Had a busy week this week folks. Played the Deli on Tuesday, JJ's Saloon on Wednesday, the Bluebonnet (with Ramsay Midwood!) on Thursday, Wayne School District lunchtime on Friday at lunchtime, then a house concert in Sulphur on Friday evening, then topped the whole thing off on Saturday at Jefferson Freedom Cafe in Ft. Worth. Yeehaw it was a doozy but dadgum I asked for it I guess.

Michael and I are headed to the R Bar in Tulsa tonight and the Illinois River Jam tomorrow. Come see us.

Ramsay Midwood at the Deli Tonight

Good morning everyone. I just wanted to let you all know that Michael and I will be opening for the one and only Ramsay Midwood at the Deli tonight. If you haven't heard this guy, then shame on you and I expect you to be at the Deli tonight to redeem yourself.

Also, we will have a fresh batch of t-shirts tonight for purchase.

VDub Session/Mini-Tour Update

Hey there. Hope you enjoyed that. We enjoyed recording it. Big thanks to Nathan Poppe and the folks at Fowler VW and The Spy FM. You can see the blog post here (key words: hot sauce): http://vdubsessions.com/2012/09/05/parkermilsap/

In other news, our Okemah gig go cancelled as the venue is closing. Sorry folks. If you were planning on coming you'll have to make the trip to one of these fine destinations:

9/6 - The Deli - Norman - 10:30

9/7 - The Blue Note - OKC - 10:00

9/9 - Desi and Cody Fall House Concert Series - Tulsa - 6:00

xoxo,

Parker

P.S. Big thanks to Don't Stop Please, the White Water Tavern and all of the Little Rocks who welcomed us with open arms.

P.P.S. Big thanks to Sam Crain, John Calvin and Daniel Foulks for showing up at the last minute and letting us borrow their talents on the stage.

Okie-tour/Little Rock/ VDub (not in that particular order)

Last night Michael, Daniel and I all piled into a Volkswagen Van (top-popped, yes we fit Mike's bass in there) and recorded a VDub Session. If you like sweaty guys, new songs, Mavis dogs and real close-up cinematography, you'll love the video. Should be out in the next few days. Lookoutman.

In other news, we will not be at the Deli tonight, but our good friend Gabriel Hancock will be. It's still free and they will still be serving red cups. Gabriel is a fantastic lyricist and vocalist and a must-see act. Go do it. What else do you have to do on a Tuesday evening.

While Gabriel is filling our slot at the Deli, we will be opening for Don't Stop Please at the Whitewater Tavern in Little Rock, Arkansas. If you're form Little Rock and happen to see this post, come see us. Good times guaranteed or your money back (not really, we're poor musicians what do you expect of us, huh?)

Next order of business, this weekend is the Millsap/Rose + Desi/Cody Mini-Tour!

Fun Fact: This run is occurring in September, not August, so all of those 8s before the slashes should actually be 9s. Oops.

xoxo,

Parker

All Around the World (or at least Oklahoma)

Hey Folks,

Mike and I travelled to Bartlesville on Monday and played the OK Mozart festival on Tuesday. On Monday night we had the privilege of witnessing John Fullbright and Terry Ware perform in the big (beautiful) hall at the Bartlesville Community Center. If you've never been to Bartlesville, get yourself up there sometime.

In other news, we'll be traveling around Oklahoma quite a bit this week. Come see us.

Had a good time on the road. Big thanks to Kyle Reid for helping us out at the Colony.

Losing a Friend (for a little while, anyway...)

A few months ago, my friend John Calvin waltzed into the Deli on a Tuesday evening alongside a bearded man named Daniel Foulks. After a song or two Daniel hopped onstage and started playing fiddle with us. Since then, Michael and I have developed a genuine friendship with the man named Daniel, and performed with him as often as possible (always gotta pay the fiddler.) Next week, Daniel will be embark on a tour with his bluegrass band, Mark Phillips and the Third Generation. He'll be gone until about August. We're gonna miss him.

New Motion Pictures (with Sound!)

Hey Folks,

We played a show last weekend at the Opolis with our good friends Samantha Crain, John Calvin, Camille Harp, Daniel Foulks and Justin Bloss. One spectator commented, "what a treat." We had a good time and Mockingbird Media came out and filmed the event. Here's what they filmed.

You can see more of their good work from this show, plus some tunes from John Calvin, Samantha Crain, Justin Bloss and Camille Harp here.

More to come soon,

Parker

Oklahoma Gazette Album Review

Hey everybody,

Read the kind things that Joshua Boydston of the Oklahoma Gazette had to say about our new record.

Key words: Fledgling, velvet, and dandelion.

Parker Millsap & Michael Rose - Palisade

Fledgling singer-songwriter and Purcell native Parker Millsap builds quite a foundation with stand-up bassist Michael Rose on their debut,Palisade. From the sounds of it, a monumental career is in the works.

palisdade_1

Like velvet laid over gravel, Millsap’s voice plays gruff, jagged and unexpectedly smooth at the same time. He captures the essence of Tom Waits’ vocals better than a 19-year-old singer ever should; fans of Closing Time-era Waits will find lots to like here, albeit more countrified.

The opening title track saunters with a saucy strut that lets out a wallop over Millsap’s equally impressive abilities on the guitar. The more delicate “Seed” drifts like a dandelion across the sunset, and the pair fires full-force on the harrowing “Farmer’s Lament” and never lets down over 11 tracks.

It’s important not to undervalue Rose’s contributions. He’s not just Robin to Millsap’s Batman; his expertly placed bass lines give Palisade the weight it needs in lieu of drums or other backup.

Most impressive is that despite every opportunity to sand down that monumental voice into something more accessible and bending the arrangements to a poppier plane (think Mumford & Sons), the duo commits wholeheartedly to a more vintage appeal, thus giving them a character and credibility few other acts enjoy.

Palisade is dynamite, and if the right pieces fall into the right places, it’s not hard to imagine Millsap’s name up there with the likes of modern folk troubadours like Ray LaMontagne and Ryan Adams. He’s just that good. —Joshua Boydston

Stark Fine Dining

Mike and I played at Stark Fine Dining in Pauls Valley this evening. Excellent food. Excellent atmosphere. It's worth a visit. You may even see a guy doing this...

SITW/Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

Over the weekend, Michael and I travelled to Regency, Texas and played the "There's Something in the Water Music Festival." A great time was had by all. I know because I heard laughing and hollering outside the tent at about 5:15 am. Big thanks to Joel Melton, and Alton and Sue Watson for putting the thing on and treating Mike and I like family. Alton even showed us his arrowhead collection. Pretty neat stuff. Here's a particularly awkward picture of Michael and I playing with Joel.

Nevermind the cat shirt.

Anyway, on Sunday evening, Michael and I opened for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. 'Twas a fantastic time. At the end of the show they asked all of us openers to come back onstage and sing "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" (of course) which eventually turned into "The Weight" then turned back into "Will the Circle Be Unbroken." Here's proof.

Yes indeed.

Parker

Thank You

Hey there,

I know it's a little late, but thank you. The album release went better than I could have ever imagined. John Calvin and Samantha Crain did a fantastic job warming up the crowd. Beautiful stuff, guys. As far as you fans go: dadgum. Thanks for bringing your bodies to the Deli and purchasing CD's. I can't thank you enough.

Parker

Album Release

In about 19 hours, the fruits of our labor will be harvested. Michael and I have spent quite a bit of time, heart and money on these little guys and we are excited to get them into your hands. Some of the songs on this album are over a year old and I believe it's about time you can listen to them whenever you want. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed creating it.

7 o'clock. The Deli. Samantha Crain and John Calvin to open.

Thanks,

Parker

Red Bull Shindig/The Branch

Hey y'all.

I had a grand weekend. Thursday I went out to the Farm and got to hang out with some of Red Dirt's finest musicians: Randy Crouch, John Fullbright, John Cooper, Brad Piccolo, Ben Han, Dustin Welch, Donnie Wood, Jesse Aycock, Dustin Pittsley, Chuck Dunlap, Tom Skinner and Mike McClure along with a slew of others who I will probably receive e-mails from for not being in this post. I love you all. Anyway. We stayed up way too late and Randy invited me to help him build geodesic domes.

Friday night I played at Eskimo Joe's with Travis Kidd. A good time indeed. Had to try and remember how to play guitar solos. I don't encounter those too often these days.

On Saturday, Rachel and I met up with Mike in Tahlequah. Tahlequah is a neat little town. A little okie-arkansas arts haven. Green all over and street signs in English and Cherokee. They also love posters. Nearly every store's front window was littered with posters for local music and festivals. AFter consuming an excellent Sam and Ella's pizza, we played to a very welcoming crowd at the Branch. A nice little weekend indeed.

This is my favorite picture from the Red Bull festivities:

Only Days Away

Big news folks. Mike and I are recording this week. Hopefully we'll have an album out sometime in April. The recording will occur at 115 Recording in Norman, OK with our good friend and sound wizard Wes Sharon. Get ready.

In other news, we're playing the Blue Door later this month. Really late actually. The very last day in March, the 31st. The Blue Door is the finest listening room for miles and miles around and it's an honor to be performing there. Hope to see you all there.

More soon,

Parker

The Week Ahead

Greetings,

This week a few good things are happening in our little world. Allow me to explain:

Tuesday is Mike's 21st birthday, and it's Valentine's day, and we're spending it at the Deli. Come buy Mike drinks (legally, for the first time ever) and celebrate your loneliness or your togetherness or just pray to everyone's third favorite saint (after Patrick and George). We will have some Valentine's cards to give to all you folks who are Valentine-less.

Then on Thursday, I will be joining the one and only John Cooper (of Red Dirt Ranger fame) at the Cushing Country Club. Rumor has it that we'll be song-swappin', bad-joke-tellin', and generally attempting to entertain from 7-9. More details here: www.cushingountryclub.org

Finally, on Saturday, Mike and I will be performing a few songs at the Rodeo Opry. Show starts at 7:30. More info on that here: http://www.ohfo.org/events/category/events.html

Hope to see you all this week!

Parker

P.S. I got a dog. Her name is Mavis.

The Folk Team Dream Sex Machine

Hey there,

Tomorrow night I will be joining my good friends John Calvin, Michael Rose and Kyle Reid at the Bluebonnet Bar on Main Street in Norman for an evening of Budweiser horses and madness. If you don't know what Budweiser horses are, come out to the show and fin out for yourself. The evening is guaranteed to be a good time or your money back (unless we've already lost it or spent it in the cigarette machine). 9 o'clock. 5 Dollars.

In other news, we just secured our first ever Wormy Dog Saloon gig. We'll be playing there on April 18th at 10 p.m. I realize that this is a little ways in advance, but rumor has it that the Wormy Dog is pretty huge, so I'm supplying you all with ample time to mark your calendars and invite all of your friends.

Have a splendid weekend, folks.

Parker

Welcome Back, Tuesday.

Hey there everyone,

Sorry for leaving you all out in the cold (or whatever you call this weather). Come back inside. Coffee's in the pot, get some. Anyway, I forget that this website exists from time to time. Sorry about that. Apparently you all don't forget. I found out I can see how many people get on this website every day, month etc. and so far we're averaging over 100 hits a day. Dadgum and thank you.

So Mike and I are back on Tuesdays at the Deli. 7-9. For free like always. Big huge thanks to Travis Linville for letting us keep his spot warm while he was out. By the way, he's got a new EP coming out and I've heard good things about it, so go now and get yourself a copy at www.linvillemusic.com. Mondays treated us kindly and while we are sad to see them go, we welcome Tuesday (and you, reader/listener) back with open arms. We hope all the good folks who joined us on Mondays will make the trek down White street on Tuesdays as well. The Deli is becoming my home away from home and so far I'm okay with it.

Like a drunk in some midnight choir,

Parker

Monday Night Madness

Howdy Folks,

Things have changed…

We're playing the Deli on Mondays now.

Still 7-9.

Still Free.

Working on more shows and trying to create more news.

Comanche Sessions/Upcoming Things

Howdy everyone,

Mike and I have been staying fairly busy the past few weeks, but we found some time to do some recording. In January my aunt bought a building on Comanche street here in Purcell. She is finishing up remodeling it, and we liked the sound of the foyer, so we drug some guitars, a bass, some microphones, a Woody Guthrie picture and a wire mannequin into the foyer and hit record. The ever-helpful and cheerful Clint Kirby helped engineer the sessions (dubbed "The Comanche Sessions" by Clint). We recorded everything live with the exception of one harmonica part which we recorded through a homemade, tin-can microphone. Within about 12 hours, we recorded 6 songs which are currently being mixed for your listening pleasure. You can listen to one of these songs at parkermillsap.bandcamp.com. Within a week or so, we should have all of the tracks up for listening. Maybe. I'm forgetful.

In other news, we're trying to stay busy. Idle hands create trouble or something like that, so I do lots of sign language and thumb-twddling. Also, I try to book shows. The following are the fruits of my labor.

December 6 - The Deli - 6-9

December 8 - Othello's - 8-9

December 10 - The Rusty Knot - 9-12

December 11 - The Blue Door Woody Guthrie Tribute - 8-?

December 13 - The Deli - 7-9

December 14 - The Deli (opening for John Calvin and the Cavalry) - 7-9

Love,

Parker

New Acoustic Oklahoma Videos!

Thanks Casey Friedman!

Trading a Deli for a Rusty Knot and a Brewhouse

Howdy folks,

This past weekend was a grand ole time. Big thanks to everyone who came to Libby's, Michaelangelo's and then Libby's again. Also, big thanks to John Calvin for swapping songs with me on Saturday and Camille Harp for letting us fill in while she was under the weather. Get well soon, Camille! If the fates are in our favor, Mike, John and I will play together again real soon.

In other news, the Deli show this week is cancelled. We will probably head up to Cushing for the Tuesday Night Music Club. Come check it out if you're up that way. Bring a guitar or a snack. Snacks are always appreciated and the TNMC. We have 2 shows this weekend, including a home-towner. We will be playing the Rusty Knot this Friday from 9-midnight-ish. Come check it out. Neat little restaurant and bar with great edibles. Then, Saturday night we will be playing a short set after the OU game at the Brewhouse on Main in Norman. Comfy couches and music for all.

Adios,

Parker

Tuesdays at the Deli

Greetings earthlings,

With the Help of Camille Harp, Michael Rose and I have landed a steady gig at the Deli in Norman. Thanks Camille! We'll be there every Tuesday from 7-9 for free. Come see us. Get a red cup.

Pip-pip,

Parker

P.S. Camille Harp plays the Deli every Thursday from 7-9. It's free too. Go see her. You won't regret it. Promise.

P.P.S. The coming Tuesday's gig (the 15th) has been cancelled. The Deli is remodeling...

Welcome

Howdy Folks,

Welcome to the brand-spankin'-new www.parkermillsap.com. I'm still trying to figure out this whole website shennanigannery, so you may have to bear with me for just a moment. The intent of this website is for you to be able to keep up with my every move (but not quite Animal Planet or CIA every move…I would prefer if not everyone knew how much fast food I consumed). However, you will be able to keep up with me in musical terms. In the coming days, weeks, months, years and decades(?) I will be posting music, videos, pictures, ramblings and show dates for you to peer over. One day, I may even ask for your hard-earned monies in exchange for a song or two on here. But for now, keep your money in your pocket and your eyes on the screen. You might miss something.

Give it teeth,

Parker
